That's How They Get Ya

Well for about the 8th or 9th time since October 2001 I moved yet again. You'd think I was used to it by now, but I got to tell you it gets harder every time seems like.... Today's move was only a few miles down the road, and since DC is covered in snow and ice I decided I'd get some movers to move my shit. I have no furniture, mostly clothes, Cd's/Dvd's. computer shit, a few guitars/processors, and a ton of books. So after shopping around I found a place that said they'd move me for $150. Considering the job would take about 6 or 7 hours by myself with the 10 degree weather outside with snow up to my ass, or 3 hours tops for a couple "pro" movers, I thought it would be a good deal. The movers I selected, we're people that the apartment people suggested, they weren't listed in better business with good or bad reports, so I figured what the hell.
Let's go back a few years ago, I seen this show on Date-Line, or Prime-Time, or Some-Time-Line shit that talked about how movers all over the country scam people by agreeing to one price then jacking it up all crazy before they'll deliver your shit. So say the movers tell you it's $3,000 to move you, they come pick your shit up, then call you (or even worse MAIL you) that the price was a bit more then what they quoted due to "extra pieces, tolls, special packing the truck to protect all the boxes that were labeled fragile" etc.... Anything and everything you can imagine these scum bags can come up with they tack it all on and then hold your shit for ransom until you agree to pay all the extra money. Happens every day.
Regardless the movers show up, like I told the guy on the phone I had "about" 30 boxes and a few suit cases, no furniture except a couple of bookshelves. I show the moves what all needed to go on their truck, and this is where I fucked up. This is where you should ask them how much it's going to be..... Right then when they can see what has to be moved. I didn't, I knew there was 6 extra boxes then I said, and instead of 3 "suit cases" there was about 6 "bags". I wasn't too worried though because I'd pulled $170 out of the bank and was planning on tipping these dipshits $20 for the few extra pieces. So the next to last box hits their truck and the "quiet" of the 2 guys says to me, "You had more pieces then what you said, you going to take care of us for that?" And I said to him, "Yeah, I have $170 dollars, I figured I'd throw you guys a $20 tip. Response...... "Well, I have to call my boss, we'll see what he says". I knew right then I was about to be scammed, I was a little upset, but not shocked because that's what the people do is try and fuck you. I told him, "Well if was going to be more you should have said something before you started loading the shit". Of course you and I both know at this point it wouldn't make a shit what I said, my shit was on their truck and I was on a deadline to be out of the apartment that day. (Here's another point to think about, before the movers at your house touch one box ask them who their supervisor is... Get the number.) When the guy came back he said it was going to be $190. I wasn't happy, but $40 more bucks to get it done was worth it. I'm more pissed at me that I didn't follow my heart and do the things I would have normally done, and I'm posting this to maybe help one of FX reader's to not be scammed.
If you're in the DC / Northern, VA area don't hire four less movers / 4 less movers / for less movers. They suck ass!
